Who We Are

Stepping Stone Emergency Housing is Anoka County’s only youth & adult homeless shelter, and one of Minnesota’s most trustworthy non-profit organizations. In a dormitory-style setting, Stepping Stone provides a primary, yet temporary, “home” to 66 men and women, as young as 18 years old.

Our History

Stepping Stone Emergency Housing (SSEH) is the only homeless shelter in Anoka County that accepts single homeless adults. It began serving homeless adults in 1994 under the management of Shiloh Ministries and in 2008 received non-profit status with a Board of Directors appointed. In September of 2012, we were fortunate to be able to move from our 16 bed facility on Ferry Street to the Cronin Building on the former State Hospital grounds. We are now able to serve up to 66 single youth and adults. Our facility is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to providing basic needs, we also provide one-of-a-kind programming, services and amenities to all our residents so they will never need to experience homelessness again.

Our Mission

To provide emergency housing and support to Youth and Adult individuals, who are 18 and older experiencing homelessness, as they strive towards self-sufficiency.

Staff & Board of Directors

At Stepping Stone, our Shelter Advocates assist residents in completing daily activities. Case Managers wear many hats in order to fully support each resident. They assist in finding jobs, assist with addiction control and finding outside support for issues beyond their expertise. Consistent one-on-one help and assistance with care and empathy is something that many residents have never experienced. Management staff work to develop relationships within the community, raise funds and maintain the highest standards for Stepping Stone’s residents.
